G A N K A K U    Team

Train a lot, train well, enjoy training!

Train if it feels good, train if it does not!

Train if you have time for it, train if you don’t!

Be solid as a rock

And graceful as the crane standing on it

Look at the world from high above and freely as the Crane on the Rock!

Life is karate, karate is our life!

 (sensei János Szabó)

Our motto:

The determined and brave will become one of the bests

The most determined and bravest will be the best!

Our goals:

To teach high-level martial arts in the EU member Hungary

To improve our students physical, mental and intellectual capacities.

Our mission:

To spread the philosophy and behavioral norms of karate and its positive, productive, purposeful approach as extensively as possible.

The goal of the GANKAKU Team (members are Óbuda dojo and PBJ dojo) is to provide high-level karate training in the EU member Hungary. We are dedicated to train outstanding sportsmen who represent our country in international tournaments. We are proud of our best athlete who won bronze medal in the 2007 Goju-ryu European Championship. We appreciate ‘competition sports’ but our major efforts are still invested in familiarizing as many young people and adults as possible with the positive effect that KARATE has on body and mind. Those students who take martial arts seriously will be also successful in other fields of life. They learn how to train, work and live in a purposeful way.

In order to develop high-quality karate skills regular trainings are organized every workday and sometimes in the weekends. Everyone can achieve their aims by training programs adjusted to their interests and personality. Athletes can specialize in competitive karate or traditional martial arts; in kata (execution of defensive and offensive techniques performed in a particular sequence) or kumite (sparring) or both. Thanks to our new initiative, those senior students who do not like ’combat sports’ also have an opportunity for regular sports in the form of karate techniques-based, music-supported fitness trainings. In the case of free sparring, the attacks are pulled just short of contact (semi-contact). We pay special attention to the opponent’s physical protection through properly controlling our movements.

Besides continuous trainings we regularly organize training camps (in spring, summer and winter) in which optional activities such as excursions, visiting local places of interest and museums, horse riding, archery and craftsman demonstrations enrich the program and provide opportunity to get acquainted with Hungary’s national culture.

The TEAM is led by two professional instructors:

senpai Tünde Szabó (2nd  Dan), president of Gankaku Sport Association, holds a TFTI  coaching certificate.  During her 20 years professional career  (of which 6 years active participation in national and international championships), she won about 30 medals .  Her best result is a silver medal of the European Cup.

He has won about 60 medals in national and international championships for the last 13 years. His best results are: bronze medal  at the World Championship, bronze medal  at the European Championship, silver medal in the World Cup, gold medal at the Hungarian Championship, „Athlete of the year” award of Karate in 1993.

senpai János Szabó (1st Dan)  more than 15  years karate experience, of which 7 years participation in tournaments and 5 years instructor work.  His best result is bronze medal  at the IKGA European Championship in 2007.

We continuously train in order to achieve sustainable development. Besides increasing our specific knowledge, we also focus on general training theory, methods and pedagogy. Our instructors participate in the training courses organized by the Hungarian Karate Association and the Semmelweis University Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences every year. Their tutors are highly qualified masters and professors in these courses. In order to widen their knowledge in goju-ryu karate, both instructors and students try to participate in international training camps where they can learn high-level karate techniques from, among others, the legendary Goshi Yamaguchi. Besides trainings these camps offer a great opportunity to strengthen international relationships.
